The Haus der Wissenschaft stands for dialog between science, society, business and culture. Its mission is to bring research and the spirit of research in the region to the public and to show society opportunities to participate in research. The most important objectives here include the promotion and recruitment of young talent, image building for the city and region and the transfer of knowledge and technology. This is achieved through cooperation with partners such as the Leibniz ScienceCampus, whose aim is to conduct strategic research, promote interdisciplinarity in projects and methods, increase the visibility of the respective location and strengthen its research profile.

To achieve this goal, the Leibniz-Institut für Bildungsmedien | Georg Eckert Institute (GEI) has been working together with the Technische Universität Braunschweig, the Deutsches Schifffahrtsmuseum |DSM Bremerhaven, the Haus der Wissenschaft Braunschweig and the Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences and the Braunschweig University of Art (HBK) in the "Leibniz ScienceCampus - Postdigital Participation - Braunschweig" for four years. At this campus, researchers from the cultural, social and technical sciences come together with local and regional stakeholders in social living labs to jointly research, shape and reflect on the topic of digital participation in education and urban coexistence. The focus is on developing digitally supported forms of participation with a regional focus and shaping public, supra-regional discourses on (post-)digitality and participation.

The topics represented in the participating projects range from media constellations in education and cultural participation in museums to communication options for location-based services and bottom-up approaches for low-threshold participation in city life and mobility for senior citizens.

The Leibniz Association has decided to fund the "Leibniz ScienceCampus - Postdigital Participation - Braunschweig" (LWC PdP), which was founded in 2019, for a further four years with €1.2 million. This will enable the Leibniz-Institut für Bildungsmedien | Georg Eckert Institute (GEI) and its partner institutions to continue and expand their successful interdisciplinary research on post-digital participation in the fields of education and urban development. The "Leibniz-WissenschaftsCampus - Postdigital Participation - Braunschweig" is also funded by the Ministry of Science and Culture of Lower Saxony.
